The Ministry of Health has issued a directive on the temporary restriction of international commercial passenger flights to Myanmar since it is crucial to control the spread of the COVID-19 disease in Myanmar. With the permission of the Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), “Importation of COVID-19 to Myanmar through Air Travel” was revised as “Temporary Measures to Prevent Importation of COVID-19 to Myanmar through Air Travel Issue-2” on 31-12-2020 as of 23:59 hours of Myanmar Standard Time on 31 October 2021. Until now, the prevalence of the COVID-19 epidemic has risen in most parts of the world. With the permission of the Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the effective period of the above directive has been extended to 23:59 hours of Myanmar Standard Time on 30 November 2021 to further prevent the risk of COVID-19 transmission via international air passengers into Myanmar.

A total of over 12.38 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine has been administered in Myanmar till 23 October, according to the Ministry of Health. As of 23 October, there were 5.7 million people who had received two doses of the vaccine and 6.68 million people who had received one dose, over 12.38 million in total, according to the Ministry. Fifty per cent of the total population is expected to get vaccinated at the end of this year. The country has already received 18 million doses of vaccines till 23 October, including two million doses of the Covishield vaccine, 14 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine and two million doses of Sinovac vaccine.

Myanmar has also accepted over six million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from China, India and Russia, according to the Ministry. Further, Myanmar has already purchased 24 million Sinopharm vaccines from China under the contract system. As soon as the vaccine arrives, Myanmar will offer vaccines to 12 million people aged between 40 and 64. The country has been administering vaccinations since January 2021, using the China-made Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines, across the country.

World Health Organization already allows China-made Sinopharm and Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines for use in emergency cases. The WHO also recommended that above aged 18 people can get two kinds of Sinopharm and Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines. Besides, efforts are being made to increase the number of vaccines available and coordinate the purchase of vaccines. Since 14 September, the target groups are being vaccinated for the first time with the COVID-19 vaccine. The number of COVID-19 cases and deaths globally slightly decreased by 10 per cent each in last week, according to the WHO’s weekly report on COVID-19 released on 28 September.

The Ministry of Health hereby announced the order by exercising the authority stipulated in Sub-Section (b) of Section 21 of the Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases Law.

1. The Ministry of Health has taken preventive measures against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in real-time. Therefore, the orders were issued for the people from some townships of Nay Pyi Taw, regions and states to stay at home in order to more effectively control the infection of the pandemic.
2. However, as the people from these townships exactly abide by the disciplines of preventing the COVID-19, further finding of confirmed patients within 14 days, declining of group-wise infection among the patients, emphasis of the relevant governments, organizations and people on raising the health awareness during the stay-at-home period, further finding of confirmed patients and contact persons in laboratory tests within 14 days, and active participation of township administrative bodies, health staff, those from related departments and organizations and volunteers as well as the people in the prevention and control of the pandemic were seen.
3. Hence, the people residing in the townships of the following regions and states were removed from the Stay-at-Home programme as of 4 am on 28-10-2021.

The Ministry of Health is delivering the COVID-19 vaccine in targeted regions and states to control the COVID-19 disease. The first batch of one million Sinovac brand vaccines donated by the People’s Republic of China for vaccination arrived at Yangon International Airport on 13 October. Also, the second batch of one million Sinovac doses and 1,001,600 needles arrived at Yangon International Airport on 14 October (yesterday) and was received by a team led by the Head of Yangon Region Public Health Department.

These vaccines will be delivered to respective states and regions with the help of the Tatmadaw (Air) and Myanmar Airways, via a cold chain system, officials said. As of 14 October, a total of 18 million doses of COVID vaccines were purchased by the Ministry of Health including 2 million Covishield vaccines, 14 million Sinopharm vaccines and 2 million Sinovac vaccines have already arrived. Over 8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine donated by India, Russia and the People’s Republic of China have also been received.

To control COVID-19 disease, the COVID-19 vaccine is being given in targeted groups in respective regions and states. As of 13 October, a total of 10,751,760 people have been vaccinated, and 4,266,484 have been fully vaccinated twice and 6,485,274 have been vaccinated for the first time. Therefore, to date, a total of 15,018,246 vaccines of COVID-19 have been given in Myanmar. “People should not miss a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine given to them. Those who have received their first dose of vaccines are also encouraged to actively participate in second dose vaccination activities by visiting the nearest vaccination group in time,” officials said.

Myanmar has vaccinated over 9.574 million people against COVID-19 as of 8 October 2021, the Ministry of Health stated. Up to 8 October, there are 4.083 million people who completed full doses of vaccine and about 5.49 million people received single doses of Covid jab, according to the ministry. Fifty per cent of the total population is expected to get vaccinated at the end of this year.

The country has already received 18 million doses of vaccine until 9 October, including two million doses of Covishield vaccine, 14 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine and two million doses of Sinovac vaccine. Myanmar has also accepted over six million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from China, India and Russia, according to the ministry. Besides, Myanmar has already purchased 24 million Sinopharm vaccines from China under the contract system.

As soon as vaccines arrive, Myanmar will administer them to 12 million people aged between 40 and 64. The Ministry added that it plans to vaccinate 20 per cent of the adult population by end of September, 50 per cent of the adult population by the end of 2021, and 70 per cent of the adult population by mid-2021. The adult population includes any persons who are 18 or older. So far, about 9.574 million adults have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccines, while 36.9 million adults are vaccinated with one dose.

The Ministry of Health conducts the vaccination programme as per target groups across the nation in an effort to control the disease. Meanwhile, 1 million Covishield vaccines donated by India arrived at Yangon International Airport yesterday, and Director-General Dr Myat Wunna Soe of the Medical Services/Public Health Department received the vaccines. The vaccines will be kept at the Central Cold Room. The officials of the Public Health Department monitor and supervise the vaccine storage to meet fixed standards constantly.

These vaccines will be distributed to regions and states based on requirements via road transport or with the help of Tatmadaw (Air) and Myanmar airways in the cold chain. Moreover, these vaccines will be used for primary target groups and additional groups. As of 9 October, a total of 18 million doses – two million doses of Covishield, 14 million doses of Sinopharm and two million doses of Sinovac purchased by the ministry have arrived in Myanmar.

Moreover, the country received more than six million doses of vaccines donated by China, India and Russia. The officials vaccinated a total of 9,574,393 people until 8 October while 4,083,337 people have been fully vaccinated and 5,491,056 people have received the first jabs of COVID-19 vaccines. Therefore, the total doses of vaccine delivered are 13,657,730 in the country until 8 October. The people are urged to receive the COVID-19 vaccines, and those who have already received the first dose are encouraged to go to the nearest immunization centres and receive the second dose on the scheduled immunization date or near the due date, as well as to actively participate in the vaccination drive.

A total of 8.264 million people had been vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine as of 1 October, according to the Ministry of Health. As of 1 October, 3.863 million people had been received full doses of vaccine and 4.4 million people had been received one dose of vaccine in Myanmar, totalling 6.264 million people, according to the Ministry.

As per the purchase contract of 24 million doses of Sinopharm vaccines from China, the country has already received eight million doses of vaccines so far including four million doses that arrived at Yangon International Airport on 12 September and another four million doses on 26 September, according to the Ministry’s report.

If the vaccine arrives, the country will vaccinate 12 million people this year. The targeted group will include people between the ages of 40 and 64. Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines have been approved by the WHO for emergency use. There are a total of 36.9 million people the age of over 18 needed to be vaccinated and, 4.99 million of them are vaccinated once or twice. The completion rate is close to 13 per cent, according to the ministry.

The newly arrived COVID-19 vaccines will be given to the original target groups and extended groups according to their priorities.

Till 26 September, two million doses of COVISHIELD, 10 million doses of Sinopharm and two million doses of Sinovac purchased by the Ministry of Health, totalling 14 million have arrived in Myanmar. The people are urged to receive the COVID-19 vaccines, and those who have already received the first dose are encouraged to go to the nearest immunization centres and receive the second dose on the scheduled immunization date or near the due date, as well as to actively participate in the vaccination activities.

The COVID-19 vaccine is being given to 36.9 million people over the age of 18 in Myanmar, and 16.7 percent of the vaccinations have been completed so far, according to the Ministry of Health. 20% vaccine coverage by the end of September; Vaccination coverage is expected to reach 50 percent by the end of 2021 and 70 percent by mid-2022, with the current vaccination rate at 16.7 percent, according to the Ministry of Health.

As of September 21, 3.583 million people had received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. 2.575 million people who have been vaccinated once; A total of 6.1159 million people have been vaccinated and 9.742 million vaccines have been vaccinated, according to the Ministry of Health. Currently, 2 million Covishield vaccines purchased from India are available in Myanmar. 1.7 million donated vaccines; Two million Sinopharm (Beijing) vaccines purchased from China; Two million Sinovac vaccines; 0.5 million donated vaccines.

Of the 24 million vaccines purchased with the second donation, four million have been purchased and a total of 14.2 million vaccines have been delivered, according to the Ministry of Health. The COVID-19 vaccine will be given to priority groups as well as to ethnic armed groups and refugee camps, according to the Ministry of Health. The COVID-19 vaccine has been available in Myanmar since January 2021. The current vaccines in China are the COVID-19 vaccine, Sinopharm and Sinovac, which are WHO-approved emergency vaccines and can be given indefinitely for those over 18 years of age, according to the WHO guidelines.

Four million Sinopharm vaccines out of 24 millions purchased from China arrived at the Yangon International Airport yesterday evening. These vaccines will be distributed to respective regions and states via land and air routes with the help of Tatmadaw (Air) starting today.

Officials will vaccinate the people over the age of 65 and 55, people with disabilities, ethnic armed organizations, people with chronic disease and people at IPD camps in addition to the priority groups.

There are 4,944,654 people who get vaccinated until 11 September while 3,239,764 people are fully vaccinated and 1,704,890 people get their first-time vaccination. Total doses of vaccine delivered are 8,184,418. The Ministry of Health also urged the people to get vaccinated without fail, and those who get first jabs to receive second dose on the due date at the nearest vaccination sites.
