1. The Ministry of Health issued Order No 19/2020 under the authority of Article 21 (b) of the Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases Law categorizing the COVID-19 disease as a disease of swift spread or the case to be reported on 28 February 2020.
2. According to this order, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport and Communications released the information regarding the Temporary Measures to Prevent Importation of COVID-19 to Myanmar through Air Travel starting 29 March 2020 and extended the period up to 31 March 2022.
3. At present, as the COVID-19 diagnosis confirmed rate, infection rate and mortality rate have dropped significantly, the temporary suspensions on international flights are set until 23:59 hours on 16-4-2022 to develop the international tourism industry of Myanmar and facilitate the arrivals of tourists and Myanmar citizens, and the international flight schedules will be resumed as normal starting 00:00 hour on 17-4-2022 (Myanmar New Year) in accord with the COVID-19 health rules.

The first batch of COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Thailand government arrived at the Yangon International Airport yesterday. Of one million doses of AstraZeneca, a total of 500,000 doses and 500,000 needles was included in the initial batch and the handover ceremony was organized at the airport.

The event was attended by Permanent Executive Committee member Dr Tin Nyunt of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, General Secretary Prof Dr Htin Zaw Soe, Yangon Region Public Health Department Director Dr Yan Naung Tun, Charge d’ affairs Mrs Kanokwan Pengsuwan of the Thai Embassy to Myanmar, Minister Counsellor Ms Chana Sindhvananda, First Secretary Ms Chalermkwan Worranit and other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The newly-arrived COVID-19 vaccines will be allocated to the regions with a low level of vaccine coverage in addition to the border areas. The Ministry of Health accelerate the momentum in the vaccination programme as per the target groups and 24.7 million of people across the nation received the vaccines up to 12 March, while 21.4 million people have been fully vaccinated and 3.3 million people receive their first dose of vaccine.

Therefore, a total of 47.01 million vaccines were delivered in the country until 12 March. If people have been fully vaccinated, the vaccines can help prevent serious illness and death. The Ministry of Health urged the people to receive the vaccines without fail and those who receive the first shots to get vaccinated for second doses on the due date or within the fixed period at the nearest vaccination sites and to participate in the processes actively.

AS it is necessary to continuously control infection of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), it is hereby announced that public requests, orders, notifications and directives (except for easing the restrictions) released by the Union-level organizations and Union ministries up to 28 February 2022 have been extended until 31 March 2022 for prevention, control and treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

1. WITH a view to ensuring further strengthening of measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has issued the following announcements regarding temporary entry restrictions for visitors from all countries. All those restrictions were extended until 31 January 2022 by the Ministry’s announcement dated 1 January 2022.
   (a) Announcement dated 15 March 2020 regarding precautionary measures for all travellers visiting Myanmar;
   (b) Announcement dated 20 March 2020 regarding additional precautionary measures for travellers visiting Myanmar and temporary suspension of issuance of visa on arrival and e-visa;
   (c) Announcement dated 24 March 2020 regarding additional precautionary measures for travellers from all countries visiting Myanmar;
   (d) Announcement dated 28 March 2020 regarding temporary suspension of all types of visas (including social visit visas) and visa exemption services.
2. In order to continue its effective response measures to protect the population of the country from the risks of importation and spread of the COVID-19, the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has decided to extend the afore-mentioned entry restriction measures until 28 February 2022.
3. In case of urgent official missions or compelling reasons, foreign nationals, including diplomats and United Nations officials, who wish to travel to Myanmar by available relief or special flights, may contact the nearest Myanmar Mission for possible exception with regard to certain visa restrictions. However, all visitors must abide by existing directives issued by the Ministry of Health relating to the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Qatar Airways Flight was landed at the Yangon International Airport yesterday morning, carrying a total of 1 million doses of Covaxin COVID-19 vaccine, donated by the Nippon Foundation of Japan through the Myanmar Red Cross Society. The Nippon Foundation donated 2 million doses of the vaccine worth of USD 17 million to Myanmar, and the first one million doses arrived on 9 January.

Officials from the Yangon Region Public Health Department received the vaccines and have stored them at the Central Cold Room under the specific temperature. The Ministry of Health has been conducting COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country as per priority groups. As of 22 January, 18.25 million people have been vaccinated twice and 3.49 million people have been vaccinated once, making 21.74 million people having been vaccinated at least once.

Therefore, a total of 40 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Myanmar. The Ministry has bought 45 million doses of the vaccine and received more than 15 million doses. The people are urged to not miss a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine given to them, and those who have received their first doses are also encouraged to visit nearby immunization centres for the second dose and to actively participate in the immunization activities, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health is continuously conducting “COVID-19 Molecular Disease Surveillance”, and releasing information on the detection of SARS CoV-2 Omicron variant from those who return by relief flights in a timely manner.

The laboratory samples of the COVID-19 virus of the returnees were sent to the National Health Laboratory and No 1 Defence Services General Hospital (1000-bed) on 20-1-2022 and the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant was found in 28 laboratory samples. 28 Omicron cases were Myanmar nationals — 11 entered the country from Malaysia, six from the Philippines, three from Thailand, four from Singapore, two from India, one each from the UAE and Russia by relief flights.

The patients are admitted to the designated hospitals for medical treatment and the passengers who returned together with them now undergo strict quarantine and lab tests. Therefore, it is announced that the ministry is stepping up the COVID-19 disease monitoring and control measures plus disease prevention, control and treatment activities.

Officials from the Yangon Region Public Health and Medical Services Department received a total of 512,000 doses of Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccines purchased from the Russian Federation yesterday morning at the Yangon International Airport.

Myanmar purchased a total of 1 million doses of the Russian-made COVID-19 vaccines, nearly a half of which 488,000 doses were transported to Myanmar in the first batch on 13 January, and this is the second batch.

Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccine requires only one dose per person and will greatly contribute to the rapid coverage of the COVID-19 vaccine in Myanmar. The vaccines have been stored at the Central Vaccine Store Depot in Yangon and will be distributed to regions and states.

The Ministry of Health received a total of 400,000 doses of Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Russian Federation at Yangon International Airport yesterday evening. At the handover ceremony, Russian Ambassador Dr Nikolay Listopadov said the vaccines are donated to mark the Myanmar-Russia friendship and to support Myanmar’s efforts to eradicate COVID-19 disease. He said that Russia and Myanmar will continue to cooperate in the fight against the pandemic in a friendly manner.

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win expressed words of thanks. He said the third wave of COVID-19 in Myanmar was under control with the leadership of the the State Administration Council and the efforts of health workers in a timely manner, adding the importance of the vaccine to control the disease transmission and that the donated vaccines will greatly help in controlling the disease in Myanmar. The Union minister also said that Myanmar will cooperate with the Russian Federation in the fight against the pandemic in a friendly manner.

Afterwards, the Union minister concluded the handover ceremony after giving the certificate of honour. Then, matters in connexion with the enhancement of cooperation in the health sector between the two countries were discussed. The Sputnik Light vaccine phial can be administered one time only so as to ensure more coverage of vaccination in Myanmar. A total of 400,000 doses of the Sputnik Light vaccine donated by Russia arrived yesterday and a total of 600,000 doses of the Sputnik Light vaccine purchased from Russia will arrive in Myanmar on 16 January, it is learnt.

About 20.91 million people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 across the country as of 4 January 2020, according to a release from the Ministry of Health. The country is administrating the vaccines to 36.9 million people aged 18 and older.

As of 4 January, there are 15.96 million people completed full doses of the vaccine and about 4.94 million people received single doses of COVID-19, according to the Ministry. Myanmar has inoculated over 51 per cent of its population against COVID-19 so far. This year, the vaccination will continue to be given to targeted groups to improve vaccine coverage. Earlier, those above 65 years old were in the priority group to be jabbed.

Now, the priority lists for COVID-19 jabs have been increased and the lists include people above 55 years of age. Besides, COVID-19 vaccines have been provided to above 45 years starting from 17 October and to above 40 starting from 9 November, according to the ministry. Myanmar detected its first two COVID-19 positive cases on 23 March 2020. The Ministry also urged people should receive the full dose of the vaccine and those who have received the first dose to visit the nearest immunization location or near the scheduled date for the second dose. \
